in the documentary
I had the privilege of being interviewed by Margarita Dreiling (beetz brothers film production) as a legal-metaverse expert for the ARTE & ZDF documentary, ‘Abuse in the World of Online Games’.
​Being part of this project was an eye-opening experience, even for someone in my field of work. We often talk about the dangers of the metaverse in abstract terms, but this film makes them terrifyingly real. It tells the story of three teenage girls who stumble into the dark side of their favourite games and find themselves up against real-world predators. It’s a story that escalates quickly and illustrates just how easily online threats can infiltrate our physical world. It's a powerful conversation starter we desperately need to have.
One of my key messages is:
What happens in the metaverse does not stay in the metaverse.
Why? Because this is precisely its purpose, the metaverse is about erasing the boundaries between our digital and physical worlds.

The stories in this documentary are symptoms of a larger issue: the breakdown of the implicit social contract between technology and society.
My book, 'Un 2.0 and the Metaverse', investigates this breakdown and explores the most comprehensive effort to renew that contract in the form of the UN 2.0 initiative.
